That's real self-awareness—recognizing those patterns in yourself is the hardest part. Most people never even get there.

The fact that you can name them means you're already stepping out of the river. Now it's just about not stepping back in. Those versions of you served a purpose at some point, or they were coping mechanisms, or they were just who you were when you didn't know better. But you're not that anymore. Or at least, you're choosing not to be.

Let them go. You don't need to carry them forward.

Monday - Stoic Wisdom:

Epictetus was born a slave. His name literally means "acquired one"—property. His master broke his leg, leaving him permanently disabled. He had every reason to be bitter, to blame the world, to see himself as a victim.

Instead, he became one of the greatest philosophers in history. His teachings influenced Marcus Aurelius, and his ideas still shape how we think about resilience today.

He taught: "It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters."

This isn't toxic positivity. It's not pretending bad things don't happen. It's recognizing that between stimulus and response, there's a gap—and in that gap lies your power.

You can't control being born into certain circumstances. You can't control how people treated you growing up. You can't control betrayal, loss, setbacks, injustice. But you can control what you do next.

Epictetus divided life into two categories: things within our control (our thoughts, actions, responses, effort) and things outside our control (other people, outcomes, the past, most external events). He said freedom comes from focusing all your energy on what you control and releasing attachment to what you don't.

Most people do the opposite. They obsess over what they can't change and neglect what they can.

Here's the practice: When something bothers you today, ask yourself—"Is this within my control?" If yes, act on it. If no, let it go. Don't waste energy on things you can't influence.

That's where real power lives. Not in controlling the world, but in controlling yourself within it.

What are you wasting energy on that you need to release?
